Mrs Slatter is the class teacher for Year 6. She is supported by Mrs Watkins and Mrs Miles. At Alveston we spent Year 6 really preparing the children for their next steps in life. They build on their knowledge and skills from their previous years and get ready for secondary school. Part of this journey involves the children taking part in a residential trip to Marle Hall and their year ends with a class production as their final farewell.
Despite ‘lockdown learning’ we managed to continue with all our planned topics this term. A highlight was certainly our ‘Frozen Realm’ topic where we learned all about Antarctica – its landscape, history and biology. In English, we read the captivating story ‘Clockwork’ by Philip Pullman and crafted some fabulous pieces of writing, really show-casing our confidence and progress made as writers. We had lots of opportunity to develop our computing skills with remote learning. We learned about the difference between the World Wide Web and the internet; developing our understanding of search engines and ‘search engine optimisation’.
