23rd September 2022

Having paid our respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, we started our week thinking about the example she set with her selfless service to others. We compared this to the story of Jesus, told by John 13:14, washing the feet of his disciples. He was not too proud, nor too busy to do this mucky job and reminded us that we should follow his example to look after each other.
This week we have also talked about 'appreciation'. It has been wonderful to hear the children share their examples of things they are grateful for and appreciate. They told us  they were thankful for their teachers helping them to learn and their friends and families supporting them in all that they do. This was a reminder once again that together we really can help and support everyone to SHINE.
This week I have been grateful for the opportunity to invite our parents back into school to join us for our favourite time of the week to celebrate our Stars of the Week.
After a sad fortnight, having parents back in school for the Celebration Assembly was truly wonderful and, as the sun has just come out, a reminder that brighter days are ahead.
Wishing you all a peaceful weekend,
Anne Clewley

Reception Sharing the Joy

Reception have had a busy week this week. Their work and play has been focused around the book ‘Joy’. We have been talking about feelings and building relationships with one another. Here we are in PE having played team games, passing a smile and a squeeze around the circle. We have also started our Taking Care Project where we have talked about the places we feel safe and people who make us feel great!

This week our Reception children also joined us for Collective Worship for the very first time on Thursday. On Friday for our Celebration Assembly they amazed us sitting and listening so carefully and celebrating each Star of Week. Well done Reception! You have settled beautifully into school life and everyone in school is so proud of you.

Reminders

Parking at Drop Off and Pick Up

We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their carpark for drop off and pick up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane or Oak Road for pick up or drops offs.

The car park is safer for pedestrians as well as families loading and unloading into cars. Parents have reported an increase in cars parked on Oak Road and many cars have parked on double yellow lines. Please be considerate to the safety of all. Thank you.
