July 2025

18th July 2025

Happy Summer! What a glorious end to a lovely summer term we have had. This week has been spent focusing on being healthy with Sports Day, Healthy Minds Day and Boogie Walk for our Minds too. So many opportunities to work as a team, to bond and to be outside enjoying the sunshine. On Friday, we bid farewell to Year 6 with their final assembly and then our afternoon ended with a bang with our first RockSteady concert.

As we look back over this academic year there are so many things to be thankful for - incredible learning opportunities, staff who work tirelessly going above and beyond, children who try hard day in and day out, parents who support us and offer so much kindness. It all goes into making Alveston the school it is. I am so proud to be a part of Alveston and proud of every child who walks through the doors.

I wish you all a restful summer to recharge those batteries. I can't wait to see you again on 3rd September!

Wellbeing Wednesday!

On Wednesday, the whole school enjoyed a wonderful Wellbeing Day filled with fun and calming activities for the mind and body. Activities ranged from mindful colouring, to healthy eating, learning about good sleep habits, drawing in nature, reading together time and making Mandalas. The day also included sessions with Mrs McFeely on breathwork, movement, and mindfulness. The children explored a variety of playful breathing techniques—from Darth Vader breathing to petal and volcano breaths- each helping them tune into their bodies and relax. They then experienced the soothing vibrations of a short sound-bath using a singing bowl, which created a peaceful atmosphere. Our yoga sessions included key poses like baby, tree, and butterfly, encouraging gentle movement and focus. The highlight of the yoga sessions was the Minecraft-themed yoga - this was an absolute hit with everyone!

Boogie Walk!

Continuing with our theme of mental health and wellbeing,  this week the children took part in a lovely, upbeat, sponsored "Boogie Walk", raising funds for Young Minds Matter (YMM). The children strutted their stuff to some fabulous music and enjoyed some lovely, quality outdoor time together.

You may already know that YMM are a charity who offer counselling to children in school. We have been lucky enough to work with them all year and many children have benefitted from their services. We are very pleased to report that many more will benefit from this in the future too.
And the Award Goes To...

Year 1 celebrated their final week with an 'Awards' ceremony where they each received a certificate based on how they will be remembered by Miss Bill. Like the small little beans they planted together, Miss Bill has loved watching each child grow and wishes all of you good luck next year and a restful and exciting summer break!
Sports Day!

Well done to everyone that took part in our annual school Sports Day! And a big well done to all children in Reception on a fantastic first sports day. The children have impressed everyone and should be so proud of themselves. Children balanced, ran, jumped, threw with accuracy and worked as a team. A brilliant time was had by all!

A Heartfelt Thank You from the Friends Of Alveston

As the school year comes to a close, we want to extend a huge thank you to all of you for your ongoing support and for attending our FOA events throughout the year. Your generosity has helped us raise valuable funds — every penny of which goes directly back into enriching the experience of our children and strengthening our school community.

Thanks to your support, here are just some of the things we’ve been able to fund this year:

·         A Christmas theatre experience for the children

·         Festive events and Christmas presents for every pupil

·         Year 6 leavers’ books to celebrate their journey

·         Playground equipment and classroom extras

·         Fun activities and treats during special school events

·         Items funded by proceeds from our bake sales — including art supplies and additional learning resources

A Fond Farewell to Year 6

Today is also a bittersweet moment as we say goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 pupils. We wish them all the very best as they head off to their new high schools — we know they’ll continue to shine!

Looking Ahead to Next Year... We need you! Join Friends of Alveston Committee

We’re already busy planning some exciting events for the year ahead and are looking to welcome new members to our FOA committee.

What does joining the FOA involve?

Being part of the FOA (Friends of Alveston) is a fantastic way to get involved in school life. Committee members help plan and run fun events like discos, fairs, and cake sales, as well as share ideas for fundraising.

It’s flexible, sociable, and doesn’t require a big time commitment — whether you can spare an hour here and there or take on a more active role, your help is always appreciated. It’s also a great way to meet other parents and make a real, positive impact on our school.

Interested in getting involved or learning more?

We’d love to hear from you! Speak to any of our current members.

Thank you once again for your continued support.

Warm wishes,
The FOA Team

A total of ten Long Service Awards were presented, alongside two Bronze, four Silver, four Gold, and 11 Platinum Awards, celebrating long-term commitment and exceptional contributions.

Apply to be our School-Crossing Patroller at Alveston Primary!

There's still time to apply to be a school-crossing patroller for Alveston Primary! We know that many of you are concerned about the increased traffic volume on Knights Lane and the general safety of pedestrians and cyclists around school. Please do spread the word far and wide - this is such a brilliant opportunity and it would be such a shame to lose it.

If you or anyone you know might be interested in this role, please do follow the instructions on the linked flyer to make an application. This role would perhaps suit a retired individual that lives in the village or a local parent with time to spare at the start and end of the school day. Or perhaps someone that simply wants to support the community.

Please note that the application window has been extended and will now close on 31st July 2025 with interviews planned to happen soon after. Rates of pay are competitive and full training will be given.

We are really excited about this and we hope that we can fully capitalise on this amazing opportunity.
