News

12th January 2024

Happy New Year! With our new playground slowly emerging, the return to school could not have been more exciting! It has been absolutely wonderful to see and hear the excitement of everyone in the community - thank you for sharing this with us.
Our children enjoyed their first breaktime with the trim trail, stage, wigwams and reflection space on Thursday. Mrs Newitt, Mrs Quainton Stubbs and I stopped our meeting, drew back the blinds and rejoiced as we watched our children throw themselves into each activity and explore their new environment.  As they politely queued for their turn, our children showed yet again that they are not just any children, they are Alveston children. Their patient, respectful behaviour amazed the contractors, who downed tools to watch the children enjoy their creations.
And it's not finished yet! On Monday next week, we are hoping the new football pitch / basketball court and exercise machines will be completed. We wanted something for everyone and the project has definitely delivered that. As everyone is so excited and very proud of their new facilities, we would like to to invite parents and siblings to a playground playdate - you will shortly receive a message via e-schools app to tell you more!
Wishing you all a peaceful weekend,
Anne Clewley

Staff Announcements
The new year has brought lots of 'new' news to our team.

New Year, New-ish Family Member!
Our first announcement is a little belated, as it landed right in the middle of our peak! However, we are delighted we can put this news into our first newsletter of the year.
We are thrilled to announce that Lucinda Edie McFeely arrived safe, sound and very bonnie on 27th November 2023, weighing 7lbs 2oz. We are all over the moon for the McFeely family. We cannot wait to welcome them and their third, gorgeous daughter into school for a cuddle! Congratulations to Lucinda's proud parents from the Alveston Family.

New Year, New School
We are so sad to announce Mrs Clowrey our Admin Assistant has left Alveston for pastures new. Mrs Clowrey returned from maternity leave at the end of the summer term last year. With her family's changing needs, she was keen to seek a role with more flexibility. As a result she has joined the Holy Trinity Primary School wrap-around care team. We have very fond memories of Mrs Clowrey's time at Alveston, which apart from the delivery of some great professional projects, was filled with her 'happy to help' attitude, smiles and laughter ... and virtual Christmas parties! George will be missed by us all and we are certain she will be a great success in her new job.

New Year, New Role
We are also very sad to announce Mrs Sanderson, our Year 5 General Learning Support Assistant (LSA), will be leaving the Year 5 classroom at half term. However, we are absolutely delighted she will continue to run our Quest and Bible story clubs! We are also thrilled that Mrs Sanderson, a qualified teacher, is leaving her LSA role to pursue her dream and passion to tutor children and to enjoy a little more time for herself and flexibility in her hours.

We would like to thank Mrs Sanderson for her support over the last few years, when she has worked in Year 4, Year 1 and Year 5, as well as supporting our teaching team during the pandemic and our Forest School team. We are so pleased Mrs Sanderson will remain one of the Alveston Family.

I am sure you will join us in wishing Mrs McFeely, Mrs Clowrey and Mrs Sanderson all the very best with these new, exciting, next steps.
Nice and toastie!

We are delighted to announce from Monday 22nd January we will be offering hot buttered toast to our children as an alternative, healthy snack at break time.

Children from all classes will be able to buy a slice of brown bread toast, buttered with Vitalite Dairy Free spread, during their morning break.

As we are a cashless school, to keep the system simple, parents will be able to buy toast for the week on ParentPay. Toast will cost £1.50 for the week, which will provide a piece of toast each day for 5 days. Children will only be able to collect toast if the £1.50 has been paid in advance.

Look out for a message in the e-schools app which will tell you a little more, for example, if your child would like to have toast but cannot tolerate gluten.

We hope this will help those children and families who struggle to find a healthy fruit or vegetable option for their snack and / or simplify their daily organisation.
Christmas Tree Donations

A big THANK YOU to those of you who purchased your Christmas tree(s) via Warwickshire Christmas Tree Farm!  The farm have kindly donated 10% of the value of those trees to Alveston Primary and we have earned a very lovely £42.50 as a result.

We really appreciate your support - thank you!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Coronavirus within School
If your child tests positive for coronavirus, please keep them at home for three days or until they are better after three days. Please report all absences to the school office as below.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412 and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick. Absences for sickness will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form: parents3002@welearn365.com.
