News

8th March 2024

Some weeks are busy and some are choc full to the brim! Parents’ Evenings, Class Assemblies and a wonderful World Book Day celebrating all things books and reading. Planned and organised brilliantly by our very own Book Worm and English Lead, Miss Griffiths, children and staff alike had a fabulous day. The PJs and costumes of characters were a joy. ‘Drop Everything and Read’ in the afternoon was fabulous as I joined Year 5 for thirty minutes P and Q and a jolly good read!  The Masked Reader made a comeback this year and was by far the best highlight of the day for children and staff alike…we were still talking and laughing about it on Friday! (Staff read short extracts from books, disguising themselves and sometimes their voices,  to see if the children can spot them!)

The very best weeks and the very best events are those that are enjoyed by everyone in our community, so look out next year, as there is talk of opening up the Masked Reader competition to the parents to enjoy too!

Wishing you a peaceful weekend,

Anne Clewley

An Out of This World...World Book Day!

This year's World Book Day came and went in a flash...but it did not disappoint! It was choc-full of imaginative and fun activities to stir the children's creativity and to pique their interest in all things books. We'll have a detailed run-down for you next week on everything that went on in the different year groups...but above are some amazing photos of the day in the meantime....
"Thank You Very Much" from Stratford Foodbank!

Thanks to your kind and generous donations from our Harvest celebrations,  Alveston Primary is the proud recipient of the wonderful certificate of recognition (shown above), sent on behalf of the Trustees and volunteers of Stratford-upon-Avon Foodbank.

The trustees have written to tell us that they, "would like to thank everyone at Alveston Primary School very much for your most generous and thoughtful donation of 132 kg of food for our Foodbank from your Harvest celebration. We are very touched that your little ones should think of those in crisis at this time.

The Foodbank is extremely grateful to all individuals and organisations who support our work and to the people of Stratford-upon-Avon and its environs who regularly donate food and cash.  Without this, we would not be able to improve our service to the growing number of people who need our help in times of crisis. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness at this time."

This is a wonderful acknowledgement of everyone's donations and thoughtfulness - and we have also exactly matched our mega donation weight from last year. Well done and thank you to everyone who kindly donated!

Exciting Messages from The Friends of Alveston...!

Get ready to hop into the Easter spirit with us!

Mark your calendars for our school's Easter Bingo on Thursday, March 21st! It's going to be egg-citing fun with fantastic prizes, bingo cards, and don't forget to pre-book your entrance ticket and food online at https://www.pta-events.co.uk/friendsofalveston/.

Children are more than welcome to play along and experience the excitement of bingo! Let's make it a family affair filled with laughter and joy.

For the comfort and enjoyment of all attendees, we kindly request that children stay seated during the game. This ensures fairness and allows everyone to fully immerse themselves in the bingo experience.

Keep your eyes peeled for exciting updates on prizes and special rounds! It's going to be an egg-ceptional evening of fun.

But wait, there's more! Don't miss out on our Uniform Sales from Monday, March 11th to Friday, March 15th, every day at pick-up time from 3:15 PM onwards. Most items priced between £1-£5!

On Friday, March 22nd, we're hosting an Easter Bake Off! Calling all bakers to showcase their culinary talents. Stay tuned for categories, judging criteria, and how to enter.

And that's not all! Save the date for our NEW Summer Fayre on Friday, May 24th. Get ready for a day filled with family fun, attractions, stalls, and entertainment!

"Parenting Together" Workshop

An email was sent out this week to all Alveston Primary families providing information on a new workshop being delivered by Warwickshire Family and Relationship Support, titled "Parenting Together".

This is an introductory workshop following their stepped approach to supporting families in Warwickshire and is about helping families deal with any issues as early as possible. (Parents/carers must live in Warwickshire). The Parenting Together workshop is for parents (including expectant parents) of children 0-19 (25 with SEND) living together and those living apart. It is suitable for co-parents in separate homes, single parents supported by other adult carers, extended families, and blended ‘step’ families. The word “parents” is used to refer to anyone in a parenting role, including foster carers, grandparents, etc.

Further information can be found at this link.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Coronavirus within School
If your child tests positive for coronavirus, please keep them at home for three days or until they are better after three days. Please report all absences to the school office as below.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via parents3002@welearn365.com.
