September 2025

5th September 2025

Welcome back! I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer break?
We were really excited to welcome the children back to school this week, including our new reception children who had their home visits and then joined us in school for their first day today. The staff have been raring to go with our first week which is always Ethos Week. During these first few days we set out how things run in the new classes and we have reminded the children of important tools such as Zones of Regulation and Protective Behaviours.
Mrs Clewley has not yet returned but, just as before the summer, school will continue to run in her absence and should you require anything at all - myself, Mrs Rogers, the office or your children's class teachers will happily support you. We always have an open-door policy, please speak to us about anything at all as and when it happens.
We have updated the newsletter with dates for INSET days, Forest School, Harvest, Christmas plays and Christingle services as well as many other dates so please do look below for these and note them in your diary*
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I can't wait for next week when we have our first full week with our whole school in, full time. It will be joyous.

Best wishes

Jess Newitt
Acting Head Teacher
* please note - dates are subject to change so please do check the newsletter/website calendar regularly.
Year 5 have had a fabulous start to the year during Ethos Week. They even managed to dodge the rain and get a group photo in the sunshine! There will be more lovely updates and photos from the children's first few days back at school, next week.

Wedding Bells!

We are very pleased to inform you that Miss Bill got married over the summer holidays and will now go by the name of Mrs Bonell. We wish Mrs Bonell and her husband a happy marriage and lots of love. Congratulations!
On your marks, get set...row!

20 Alveston parents have had the mad, crazy idea to enter this year's Dragon Boat race! The majority of the team have never stepped foot in a rowing boat let alone a dragon boat and, with no opportunity to practice, the team will be winging it and hoping for the best. Yikes! The team of Alveston parents are hoping to raise £2,000 to support the Shakespeare Hospice and the Friends of Alveston (to be split 50/50)..and to beat other local schools too (hee hee!).

The Dragon Boat races are scheduled for Sunday 21st September 2025 and the Alveston Parents team would absolutely love to have riverside support on the day – so get cheering and, more importantly, please sponsor the team and their heroic efforts here. The atmosphere at this event is always great so do get riverside and enjoy the races, if you can.

Date: 21 Sep 2025

Time: From 10:00am

Location: Stratford Boat Club, CV37 7LS

To help boost their fundraising effort, a bake sale will be held in the playground on Friday 12th September. Don’t forget your cash!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the sport, dragon boating is a fun-filled, adrenaline-pumping, water sports activity. Teams compete in Dragon Boats, which are large canoe-like vessels fitted with ornately carved dragon heads and tails. Crews of up to 17 people sit in pairs and paddle to compete in races over distances of around 250m with each boat having a drummer, beating time to keep the paddlers in unison. At the Stratford event, each team will compete in a minimum of 3 races and are aiming to set the fastest time each round. The teams with the fastest single times will then go into the Grand Final to compete for gold, silver, and bronze Dragon Boat Challenge medals and the winning team will be presented with an engraved Champions Trophy - the Shakespeare Hospice Dragon Boat Champions 2025.

Musical Theatre Club at Alveston!

Black Box Tuition are inviting children from both KS1 and KS2 back to their musical theatre workshops at Alveston Primary.

Black Box was founded in 2024 with the aim of building young people’s confidence through Vocal Tuition, Musical Theatre & Drama Clubs in Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire and The Cotswolds.

Taking into consideration the positive impact that the arts have on a child’s mental health, Black Box found that children who attend their classes not only find their voice through singing, but they build in confidence, expand their public speaking ability, hone their social skills, and respond positively to constructive feedback.

Why not take a look at their website for more information.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:

parents3002@welearn365.com
