News

15th December 2023

We have had the most wonderful week here at Alveston. Last Friday we all enjoyed the Christmas Fayre and with mulled wine, mince pies, Christmas carols and exciting stalls, it was certainly fun for all. For so many of our community, the nativity performances are the highlight of season. This year's did not disappoint! Wow! The children showed themselves to be accomplished, confident actors and singers and we were tremendously proud of them all.
This newsletter, I would like to shine the light on a specific group of people within our community - our grandparents. Just like those who visited Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus, so many travelled from near, far and wide to see their grand children perform. It was a joy to welcome so many to Alveston, some like old friends and some new to school. Thank you to each and every one of you for joining us for the performances and for all your wonderful feedback about the plays themselves and the work we are doing at the school. It was all greatly appreciated. As Mrs Newitt and I reflected on the week, we were reminded of something still on our to-do list - to hold another event just for our grandparents...I promise we will work on this in the new year!
This has been a long term, we know everyone is exhausted - children, parents and staff. However, we have another exciting week planned, so I wish everyone a very restful weekend.

Christmas Performances...to Warm the Heart

This week, Reception retold the Nativity story through the eyes of a very Sleepy Shepherd. He heard the news of Jesus' birth from a group of angels and he knew he needed to go, but it was hard persuading everyone else that he hadn't been dreaming. All was well in the end when everyone found Mary, Joseph and the Baby Jesus in a stable and visitors from the east even joined them in celebrating the birth. The children performed their first big production tremendously. Lots of proud and happy tears were shed.

In a dazzling display of singing, dancing and Christmas spirit, our Key Stage 1 children captivated audiences earlier this week with their Christmas performances of Everyone Loves a Baby. The actors and narrators all shone brightly, filling our hearts with warmth and joy. A huge round of applause to our brilliant performers and a thank you to everyone who made these magical performances possible!

This week, Year 3 and 4 took us on a journey around the world in their show-stopping performance of Christmas Around the World. A box of crackers was given to the children as a Christmas present. Each time the children popped another cracker they were transported all around the world learning about the true meaning of Christmas. A truly wonderful performance by all children which brought a tear to all our eyes.
