What a glorious end to a wonderful half term. Arts week at Alveston has been fabulous. Mrs McFeely planned Arts Week this year to explore each of the arts, with a day dedicated to art, dance, drama, creative writing and music. We have had some incredibly talented professionals join us over the week, as well as utilising some of the amazing skills of our own staff. A full round-up will be posted in our newsletter after half term. In the meantime, my personal favourites included the junk drumming workshop - scraps being utilised to make gorgeous music and country dancing on the field in the sun. The children coming together to sing their VE day songs, dressed in red, white and blue for you on Friday afternoon, and unveiling their artwork, will remain with me for a long time too. It felt very, very special, wonderfully poignant and a beautiful end to a lovely, 'short but sweet' half term!
 
Before we enter the holiday, I would like to thank you for your kind wishes for Mrs Clewley. We have been passing these on and she is really appreciative of all your love and kindness. As a team, we too are grateful for the support you have shown us as we continue to work together to deliver the best education for the children at Alveston each day.

Congratulations to this week's Team Point winners, Othello Yellows! I And a big "WELL DONE" to anyone who earned a team point this week.
Time for a Coffee?
 
We are pleased to inform you that we will be holding a coffee afternoon for parents on Friday 6th June, from 2.30-3.05pm in the Community Room. Mrs Rogers will be on hand if you wish to discuss any concerns such as SEND or pastoral support. Kate Perham, from the Connect4Health school nursing team, will also be attending and can give advice on areas such as sleep, anxiety, healthy eating and toileting. We would really like to build a parent network in school for parents to also support each other so, please do come along for a chat and a cup of tea/coffee. Please let Mrs Rogers know via the parents email if you would like to come so we have an idea of numbers. We look forward to seeing you.
Building Bridges
 
Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed Arts Week this week! Part of the week was making the wooden truss bridges we had previously designed. The children have enjoyed using a range of tools such as hack saws, bench hooks and wooden files. Stay tuned for our completed bridges!
 
Football Fantastic!
 
This week our Girls football team, comprised of Year 4 and Year 5 children, played in a tournament against 5 other local schools. The girls did so well - especially considering they were the youngest group in the mix and had never played as a team before! The girls seemed to really enjoy their first football adventure together and we want you to know that we are very proud of you! Watch this space for future footballing fun...
 
School Book Fair...coming soon!
 
Alveston will be hosting another exciting school book fair towards the end of June - just in time to stock up for lots of reading over the summer holidays! Check out the images above for some of the books on offer. More details to follow soon...

Could you support a local family through tough times? 
 

Home-Start South Warwickshire trains volunteers to support families with children under 5 who are going through difficult times. They still have spaces on their upcoming training course on the 4th June. By giving just a few hours a week, you can offer emotional and practical support to a family in your community. Full training is provided, including some online learning.

General Reminders
 
Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.
 
Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday). 
 

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
