12th April 2024

Welcome back to the Summer Term! It has been a wonderful start to the new term too. The highlight of my day is welcoming the children into school and this is always super special after a break. I had another highlight this week, our service of Thanks and Reflection to open our new outdoor spaces and, in particular, our Reflective Space. The opportunity to stop and really take in what we have managed to achieve as a community, to reflect on and give thanks for all that we have and to share this moment and memory with our children, families and benefactors was a very special moment indeed. The songs the children sang so beautifully are laden with emotion and watching our Reception children lay their pebbles as we sang 'Remember Me' will be a memory I treasure for the rest of my life. Thank you to everyone in our community who has helped and supported us to realise this dream.
I wish you all a peaceful weekend of wonderful weather,
Anne Clewley
Head Teacher

Team Cup Winners!

Congratulations to this week's Team Cup winners, Avon Blues! Also, a big well done to everyone and anyone who earned a team point this week.

Shine Time will be back in its usual Friday morning slot from next week...see you then!
A Midsummer/spring Night's Dream

As part of Shakespeare Week, in the run-up to the Easter break, Reception class made "Puck’s Potions" - adding small but carefully selected ingredients they could find outside. The children came up with ideas for what their potions could do from becoming invisible to giving them laser eyes!
Netball Fun with Stratford Grammar School

Year 4 were lucky enough to train with three netballers from Stratford Grammar School this week. Children practised their shooting skills, catching and throwing using the different passes in netball. The children also worked on their communication skills whilst playing team-building games such as capture the flag and a version of bench ball.

Many thanks to the girls at Stratford Grammar School for providing such a wonderful session for our children.

P.S. If the laughing/cheering/clapping/shouting that was coming from the hall is a reflection of how well this event went, I can confirm that the children had a fantastic time and it was lovely to hear!

Easter Bake-Off Masterpieces!

Feast your eyes on our wonderful Easter Bake-Off entries above!!! Aren't they amazing?! Thank you to everyone who put in so much hard work to make their stunning creations.

We are pleased to announce the following winners:

First place - Jake H-J (Year 5)
Second place - Matthew J (Year 6)
Third place - Liam S (Year 4)

Well done to you all!!!

The Friends would like to thank everyone for their continued support in purchasing and baking cakes and participating in all the other events we organise. And thanks to Friends themselves for their great fundraising ideas and hard work!

Hope you all had a very happy Easter filled with treats!
Road Closure Notification

Oh, the joys of yet another road closure! I am sure that you are all well aware already that the works on Knights Lane will begin this Monday 15th April.  The road will be closed from Townsend Road up to Loxley Road and works are scheduled for the next 20 weeks.

Please do plan ahead for an alternative route and do try and give yourself extra time in the mornings due to the likelihood of increased traffic on other local roads.
Did You Bag It Up Over Easter for Bag 2 School?

Don't forget that Friends have organised a clothes and shoe collection with Bag2School on Tuesday 23rd April. Get digging in those wardrobes and help raise some extra funds for our lovely school!

Please donate unwanted textiles in the bag provided – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, handbags and soft toys, (please refer to https://bag2school.com for full details). In addition to raising extra funds, it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse.

If you fill the donation bag and still have more then you can use any other bag to donate your items and don’t forget to ask grandparents, friends and neighbours to have a sort out as well!

Please bring your bag (or bags!) to the main playground by 9am on Tuesday 23rd April and help us have a really good collection.

REMEMBER: THE HEAVIER THE BETTER!

Many thanks indeed for helping us with this unique fundraising opportunity!

Stratford Literary Festival is on its way...

...and there are plenty of exciting events and authors coming to town!

As a local charity, we care greatly that children and their families get access to books and authors whenever possible so please do take a look here to see what's on offer.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Coronavirus within School
If your child tests positive for coronavirus, please keep them at home for three days or until they are better after three days. Please report all absences to the school office as below.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via parents3002@welearn365.com.
