December 2025

12th December 2025

This week has been so wholesome and cup filling. It is such a highlight of the year to see the Christmas nativity and panto productions performed by Reception, Years 1 and 2 and Years 3 and 4. Every child was shining with their singing, dancing and acting and I was immensely proud of everyone's efforts. A huge thank you to the staff for the work that went into these shows. These are memory making moments for everyone and worth all the effort.

We can't wait for another memory moment on Tuesday with our Christingle service in church at 2.15pm. This is always beautiful and well attended. However, as in the event sheet, please do not get to church before 1.30pm as there is a funeral in church and we can not access church until after this time.

On Wednesday we have a panto production team coming into school to perform for the children. This is a wonderful treat being paid for by the Friends of Alveston. Thank you for attending the Christmas Shine Bright evening and buying hot chocolate and doughnuts - all this money goes towards paying for treats like this.

Next Thursday children can come to school wearing a Christmas jumper with their uniform as it's Christmas lunch day and on Friday children can wear Christmas party clothes for a party morning before we break up at 12pm. It is going to be a super week.

Have a great weekend, bring on the festive fun of the last week!

Christmas Post!

Reception class have been reading the book, 'The Jolly Christmas Postman'. As part of this theme, the children have explored writing letters and cards in their post office role play area and, excitingly, they all walked to the local post office together. To prepare for this, each child wrote a letter to themselves, as well as letters to Santa. On their visit, the children got to explore what's in a post office and how to send a letter - they bought stamps and posted their envelopes in the post box. This was a lovely learning opportunity at such a special time of the year!
Everyone Loves a Baby!

This week, Year 1 and Year 2 shone brightly as they performed their magical Christmas play, Everyone Loves a Baby. The story follows five children who are unimpressed with the arrival of a new baby at home - he’s noisy, smelly, and turning their world upside down! Their journey to discover why everyone loves a baby leads them to angels, shepherds, kings, and innkeepers, all eager to meet Baby Jesus. What truly made the performance special was the children themselves. Their confidence, enthusiasm and wonderful acting filled the hall with warmth and festive spirit. The children’s clear voices, big smiles and teamwork created a performance that was both heart-warming and memorable. We couldn’t be prouder of how brilliantly they brought the story to life. What a great start to the festive season!

Robotics!

Last week, Year 6 built and coded robots before testing and improving them. The children enjoyed working in teams to solve design problems, and they loved being creative in their work - each robot was unique as well as successful!

Printing Memories

This week, Year 5 began printing in their Art lessons. They transferred their ‘special memory’ using tracing paper onto polystyrene tiles where they used blunt pencils to deepen the lines. From here, the children used printing ink to print their memory. Next week we will be Lino printing!
Mapping Through Stained Glass

Year 2 have been continuing their artistic journey with maps. This week they created beautiful stained-glass style artworks inspired by the map of our school. They began by mapping out Knights Lane, then used their creativity to illustrate key places in our community, including the school, Forest School, the houses and the football club. The children worked with great care and imagination, thoughtfully choosing colours and shapes to bring their designs to life. Their stained-glass maps look stunning and we were so impressed by their attention to detail and the pride they took in their work.
Pop-up Fun!

Last week, Year 5 enjoyed sharing their pop-up books with Year 1. They all had a great time reading the books and interacting with the mechanisms.

Coping with Christmas

The Recovery and Wellbeing Academy is offering a course designed to support mental health and resilience during the winter months. This course offers a safe, supportive space to explore the emotional challenges many people face during the festive season. It acknowledges that Christmas isn’t always joyful - and can bring feelings of stress, loneliness, grief, or pressure. Explore why this time of year can be so difficult, and learn practical strategies to support our mental health and emotional wellbeing. Learn more about the course here.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
