News

24th March 2023

There has been such a lovely buzz around school this week with Shakespeare week. Sonnets have been written, lots of drama has taken place and potions have been mixed. We hope we have shown the children how Shakespeare can be enjoyed by all ages.

A reminder that we break up at the end of next week. There is so much to look forward to before we finish with our Easter Service, Reception's first class assembly and the Friends of Alveston Bingo night. Thank you for supporting our raffle. I have really been grateful to be handed so many envelopes of money for the box this week. As you know from the Friends newsletter we are hoping to rejuvenate our playground with new areas and new equipment. We want to ensure the children have lots of things to keep them entertained and active during their breaks. It's a huge project so your help is so appreciated.

If you are coming to join us in church on Tuesday, please do remember that there is very limited space available. If you need a seat, arrive early. Alternatively it will be standing room only. The heating in church is also still not working so please ensure your child has their school coat on Tuesday. Thank you.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend, here's hoping for some Spring weather!

Science Week...continued!

As part of Science week, and inspired by our traditional story 'The Gingerbread Man', last week Reception conducted a very important investigation - which were the strongest biscuits when dunked in water?! The children made predictions before testing 5 biscuits, all under strict measures for fairness. The water was measured in each cup and the biscuits were held in the water for exactly the same amount of time. The runaway winner was the Chocolate Digestive. Our results show that you can safely dunk your chocolate digestive in a cool drink without worrying about it breaking up. Lots of great ideas and science vocabulary were shared.
Collective Worship

Year 4 led Collective Worship this week. They discussed Salvation and the role that Jesus played in freeing us from sin at Easter time.

Last week, Year 6 hosted their half-termly Collective Worship. This time the theme was Hope. Joey, Paige, Jake, Ruben and Isa created their own PowerPoint and presented to the school. They invited children to consider what hope is and what they are hoping for. Well done!
