Reception's learning takes place in their own self contained unit which includes a huge outside area, a creative workhop and cloakrooms. Mrs Newitt and Mrs Fielding are the class teachers and Mrs Bayliss is the full time Teaching Assistant.
Reception learn through stories, with one story being the focus of activities for a week. The classroom is set up for free flow learning and adults facilitate and support children's next steps.
Autumn in Reception was busy and fun filled. The children settled fabulously into their new school routine and have made wonderful progress in phonics. These skills have ensured many are already reading and writing short phrases and captions. Highlights this term included work on The Scarecrow's Wedding - painting Betty and Harry, exploring vocabulary in the book and making their own scarecrows in Forest School. Another highlight has to be the excitement of Christmas - performing their first school nativity on the stage - Toby's Christmas Drum, writing letters to Santa, sorting and describing his gifts by size and a Forest School present hunt.
