Below is a teacher's rundown of the Arts Week activities enjoyed by each class:
Reception carried out an Artist Focus on Giuseppe Arcimboldo - a portrait artist. We chose this artist as he’s incredibly talented yet it was very easy for children to replicate his style in their own way. Later on in the week, inspired by their trip to Lapworth Dinosaur Museum and their salt dough ammonite fossils, Reception have been creating their own dinosaur clay tiles back at school.
Year 1 used soft pastels, rulers to create sharp lines and bright cards in their pattern and symmetry art work. They used Katie Morag as an inspiration to create family tartans
Year 2 created clay seaside themed tiles. We looked at shells you can find at the British Seaside. Then we designed our tile in our art sketchbook. Next we created our tile using clay and learnt how to make a slip to attach our shell to our tile. Finally we painted our tiles using paint, glue and glitter. We really enjoyed creating our Seaside tiles!
Year 3 have been busy experimenting with tuned instruments alongside percussion to produce ‘Sunset’ themed music. The children have also been drawing intricate butterfly pictures and using pastels and coloured papers to bring them to life.
What an incredible week for Year 4, full of learning the ins and outs of performances. We started the week off in maths designing our own symmetrical theatres and following dance choreography. We wrote our own play scripts about our book The Famous Five and even performed our scripts to the class.
This week, in class, Year 5 did a maths/art project in which we produced symmetrical self-portraits of ourselves using careful observation and measurement. We looked a bit peculiar as our faces aren't naturally symmetrical! The children designed lovely Mandalas and learned to perform a Harry Potter song on the xylophones! We also completed our DT project where we produced textile decorations to hang from a mobile. We practised blanket stitch and used our science knowledge of forces to make the mobiles balance.
Year 6 have enjoyed listening to all of the visitors that have come to the school this week. From the Orchestra of the Swan to the guitar demonstration; from the RSC Wardrobe department to the RSC WHAM department; from Wind in the Willows to Young Voices - we have been thoroughly entertained and inspired! We loved listening to Sonny play the guitar and Finn, Paige, Ruben, Zak and Josie receiving the wig and make-up treatment in our workshop! In class, we have been full steam ahead with rehearsals for our leaver's play. We were particularly excited to get on the stage for the first time. We have been busy learning lines and song words and even started making our own costumes and props! We were encouraged by the acting skills of the Quantum Theatre and have learnt some tricks to enhance our own performances.
