June 2025

20th June 2025

I hate to state the obvious but, it's been a hot one! The children are really feeling it this week in lessons but it was truly the perfect weather for Year 6's residential! We bid them farewell first thing on Monday morning and they enjoyed three days jam packed full of water sports, zip wiring, camp fires and team activities. It is a rite of passage nowadays but this also gave the rest of the school a chance to 'act up' as a different year group for a few days which was equally exciting. Reception have been wonderful role models for the new Reception coming in and Year 5 have been practising being buddies with current Reception. A huge well done to everyone in school for working so hard and getting through this week. In addition to the above I have also seen wonderful writing about the Sealife Centre from Year 2 and fabulous gardening in Year 4 - all these things make Alveston such a special place. Tonight the Friends of Alveston are preparing their Summer Fayre and I know it will be spectacular. Months of their hard work has gone into this event to make it amazing. I hope you all enjoy every minute, knowing every penny raised goes straight back to raising funds for the school. THANK YOU to Friends and our parents for all their hard work and dedication!

Have a glorious sun-soaked weekend.

What an Adventure!

What an amazing few days we’ve had on our Year 6 residential trip! From start to finish, the experience was full of fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories. We were lucky to have beautiful weather and a fantastic venue that made everything even more enjoyable. The children took part in a whole range of exciting activities, including kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, raft building, high ropes, the zip wire and the adventure playpark. We also had a brilliant movie night and a lovely evening around the campfire, singing songs and toasting marshmallows. Every child gave 100% to every activity and showed wonderful enthusiasm, teamwork, and resilience. It was a joy to see them supporting each other and making the most of every moment. A huge well done to all of the children for making the trip so memorable. You’ve created moments to treasure forever.

Event Reminder - Wonder of Words - Learning Together Time

We can't wait to see you on Thursday 26th June for our next Learning Together Time ! As per the Event Sheet sent out recently, the lesson will start at 9:05am and finish at approximately 9:35am. Please ensure that you enter school via the main entrance on Knights Lane and head into the hall to be registered. The children love sharing this time with you in school so we hope that you are able to attend. We look forward to seeing you!
Fire and Clouds and Beetles - Oh My!

Last week, Year 2 wrapped up their final fire session of the year at Forest School – and what a fantastic time it was! The children got hands-on with fire safety, gathering materials and carefully setting up their Kelly kettles to get the flames going. They even took turns "feeding" the fire to keep it crackling! Once the fire was roaring, everyone gathered around the fire circle to enjoy a warm drink. You might be wondering – a hot drink on a warm day? Yes! Fun fact: in places like India, sipping hot tea in the heat is a popular way to cool down. It kickstarts your body’s natural cooling process – sweating – which helps regulate temperature as it evaporates. Science in action! Meanwhile, other pupils relaxed with some creative fun, doodling whimsical cloud drawings by spotting shapes – both real and imagined – drifting above the trees. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, our young explorers made a brilliant discovery: a family of lesser stag beetles nestled in the fire circle logs!
Bonjour tout le monde!

Calling all Year 5 Families!

A Message from Stratford School

We are, again, within touching distance of another academic year end.

For Year 5 parents thinking about the decisions ahead of you next term, Stratford School have a series of Open Morning events as well as their annual Open Evening to help you with your decision-making.

They suggest that parents bring their child(ren) along to an Open Morning where you can all see the school on a normal day. You will be given a tour by students, have the opportunity to meet with staff and the event will finish with a Q&A session with their Headteacher, Mr Wallace.

Pre-booking onto an Open Morning is necessary and, as they do become full quite quickly, they would advise parents to book promptly to avoid disappointment. Book here

There are six dates to choose from, three this term and three next term:

Wednesday 25th June
Tuesday 8th July
Monday 14th July
Wednesday 8th October
Thursday 16th October
Tuesday 21st October

Stratford School's annual Open Evening is on Wednesday 17th September and is a great way to meet a whole array of students and staff as their departments open their doors and are buzzing with exciting things to see and do. It’s a great way to get a sense of what the school does and to understand their culture and values. There is no need to book onto the Open Evening.

Hope this helps!

REMINDER: Scholastic Book Fair: 23rd - 26th June

Our Scholastic Book Fair is almost here!

Families are warmly invited to visit the Book Fair straight after school from Monday 23rd to Thursday 26th June. This is a fantastic opportunity to browse a wide selection of books with your child and make purchases if you wish. To help build excitement, we’re also running a whole-school competition!

Competition: Design a Book Cover!

We’re inviting all families to get creative and design a brand-new book cover for a favourite story—or even for a book your child would love to write one day! Entries can be hand-drawn or digital and should include:
  • A front cover design
  • A title
  • The author’s name (your child or a made-up name)
Please return entries to your child’s class teacher by Friday 20th June. Winners will receive a voucher to spend at the Book Fair!

For more information about the Book Fair, including payment options, featured books, and pre-order details, please visit:  https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/parents

We can’t wait to see your creative entries and look forward to welcoming families to the Fair!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:

parents3002@welearn365.com
