News

31st March 2023

As the Spring Term comes to an end, we realise that as a community, we have packed an awful lot into this short half term! World Book Day, reading competitions, cross county races and championships, Parents' Evenings, class assemblies, tennis and netball coaching and this is in addition to all our learning!

This week we also held our Easter Service at St. James' and it was joyous. The children's singing was a complete tonic. I would like to thank Mrs Newitt for putting together such a wonderful service to celebrate this important event in the Christian calendar.

A wonderful way to end the term, and with the summer ahead, we leave for the Easter break with joy in our hearts and hope for a bright future.

Whatever you are doing, on behalf of the Alveston Family, I wish you all a peaceful and restful Easter break.

Please do see our Community Interest section of the Newsletter for an abundance of Easter activities.

Cross Country Shining Stars!

Last Saturday (25th March), George (Y5) and Isabella (Y6) took part in the National Cross Country Schools Championship at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough after qualifying to represent the Warwickshire County team. More than 1,000 runners took part over four races and our two running stars did brilliantly! The course was tough to begin with but the sudden downpours added to the mudslide conditions. Proper cross country! Our two runners dug deep and ran very strong races. Isabella was the first of the Warwickshire team over the line and finished in the top third of the field. Well done, George and Isabella. We are super proud of you both!
Alveston Netballers

Year 6 enjoyed a netball coaching session lead by Stratford Girls Grammar School U18 Netballers.
The children participated in a range of fun and fast-paced skills games. They demonstrated excellent effort and had a superb time. Well done Year 6!
Horse Riding Heroes!

Evie, Freya and Finn from Year 6 were the winning junior team in the first round of the horse and pony care competition held at the Rookery Stables.

They will now go on to the Area competition which will be held in Shropshire in May.

Sophie, in Year 4, will also be representing the stables in Shropshire too.

Good luck Jockeys!
SAVE THE DATE!

We have another wonderful opportunity to mark an historic moment in our lifetimes and we would love it if the Alveston family could come together in celebration of the coronation of His Majesty The King, Charles III.

We are delighted to invite parents to join us for the afternoon of Friday 5th May. Celebrations will begin at 1.30pm, including performances from the children and a delicious cream tea offered by The Friends of Alveston.

An event sheet with all the details will follow soon after Easter but, for now, please mark the date in your diary.

A Sea of Uniform!

As you can see from the pictures below, we had an incredible amount of lost property to be claimed this week - particularly green jumpers and PE hoodies. There were many Alveston branded garments amongst them and none of them were named. Please ensure any items brought into school are clearly marked/named so they can be returned to your child if misplaced.

Please can we take this opportunity to remind everyone that clothing and footwear worn to school must be as per the School Uniform Policy. In particular, girls should only wear stud earrings of no more than 3mm for safety.

The School Uniform Policy can be found, in full, here.
Friends of Alveston Event: ** Bag2School**

There will be a clothing & shoe collection, with Bag2School, at morning drop-off on Thursday 20th April in order to raise funds for Friends of Alveston.

Hopefully you will have received your Bag2School leaflets in your child’s book bag.

This is the perfect time for a Spring clear-out and to get rid of any winter bits cluttering up your wardrobes. If you have any items that you would like to get rid of, please pop them in a bin bag and attach the leaflet to the bag. Items can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), belts, handbags and soft toys. Please take a look at the leaflet which gives more information. You can also refer to the website here for further details of the Bag2School scheme.

There is no limit on the number of bags so if you are having a massive clear-out, we can accept all the bags!

Please note duvets, pillows and work or school uniform with logos are not accepted.

Most importantly - THE HEAVIER THE BETTER!!!

Hot off the press from the Friends of Alveston this afternoon are some egg-citing announcements.......

The Easter Raffle raised the school £508 in total!

The Top 3 winners were:
£100 cash  - Michelle Dowler
£50 M&S Voucher - Harry Hewitt

Guess how many eggs in the jar raised £44. Liam Stowe was the lucky winner with his guess of 193 eggs!

Friends would like to thank everyone so much for their support with all the Easter fun, as well as a big thank you to everyone that came along to the Bingo night. It was a great success and raised the school £378.
