10th November 2023

This week has been one of great reflection and remembrance. On Saturday 4th November some of our children sang at Bishop Christopher’s Farewell service at Coventry Cathedral. An emotional service, it was also an uplifting one. Bishop Christopher’s sermon focused on the stories of Moses and Mary who both declared to God ‘Here I am’. This week we thought about the meaning he shared and how it linked to our value of ambition. We discussed people who stood up to be counted, people who made and achieved ambitious goals for themselves, often against the odds, demonstrating Luke’s words 1:37 ‘for nothing will be impossible with God’  These people also demonstrated courageous advocacy. Young and old, they had stood up for others and made a difference to the lives of others.
We have also joyously sung the hymn ‘I, the Lord of Sea and Sky’ with the chorus of Here I am, Lord.  Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. We can all be ambitious, dream the biggest dreams, never forgetting to help those in need along the way. Bishop Christopher has shown us over his time here that children and schools are very important to him, he has held us in his heart and will be dearly missed. We wish him all the best in his next role as Dean of Windsor, we know he will SHINE brightly!
Whatever you are doing during this weekend of remembrance, I wish you a peaceful one.

Stratford Literary Festival - with Matt Lucas

On the last Friday of last half term, we took some of our keenest readers to an exciting event as part of the Stratford Literacy Festival. We joined Matt Lucas as he talked about his childhood, his dreams, his loves and his latest book. Sharing extracts from his first novel 'The Boy who slept through Christmas', there were lots of opportunities for the children to ask questions and join in some of his games. We were extremely proud of our children as so many of them asked questions, shared ideas for stories and got up on stage to write some original song lyrics - as well as explaining to Matt what the crazy hair was all about! Confident, humorous and articulate, our Alveston pupils were definitely the major contributors of the afternoon! Well done everyone for shining so brightly and thank you to our English Lead Miss Griffiths for organising the event.
Farewell Bishop Christopher!

Last Saturday, a group of Alveston children attended Bishop Christopher's farewell service at Coventry Cathedral. The service was extremely moving, watching Bishop Christopher take off all his robes as he was divested as Coventry's Bishop ahead of his move to become Dean of Windsor. The children were asked to attend, alongside others in the diocese, to sing World Changers with Shell Perris. We felt so incredibly proud of them as they sang and danced their hearts out. Mrs Clewley, Mrs Newitt and Miss Lennon felt really honoured to watch them shine in this incredible building.

Some wonderful pictures taken at the event can be found here.
