July 2025

4th July 2025

It has been a busy last few weeks as we try to squeeeeeeze everything in before the summer. This week everyone had a day experiencing their new classes. Whilst there was some trepidation, there was also lots of joy and excitement around school. Year 6 came back from their transition and got stuck into their play which they performed for the whole school on Friday. Parents of Year 5 and Year 6 have treats in store next week, for sure!
I want to say a huge WELL DONE to our KS2 athletes who have been to Stratford School and Holy Trinity Primary over the last 2 weeks representing Alveston in the athletics (more details below). Next week there are trips galore and lots of preparation ready for Sports Day and our sponsored Boogie Walk. The fun never stops!

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend.

All Things Egypt!

The children in Year 3 had a great time working with Mrs Bakhet who came into school recently to help the children learn more about modern day Egypt. They learnt lots about Egyptian culture, food, geography and even got hands on with some Arabic writing!

 شكراً    (Arabic for "thank you")

Giddy-Up!

A huge well done to Harry, in Year 3, who has been excelling in his horse-riding recently. Harry won his beautiful rosettes for his knowledge of looking after a horse and for his riding skills. We are so proud of you, Harry!
Alveston Athletes!

On Monday, some of our fantastic athletes competed in the second round of athletics in the field events. We had some impressive competition where children competed against pupils in their year group from different Stratford cluster schools in events such as the howler throw, high jump and the long jump.

In the howler throw, Immy (Y3) threw 15m and came in second place. Frankie (Y3) finished in third place throwing 23.5m. Hattie (Y4) finished in first place for the girls throwing 22.2m and Edward (Y4) threw 20.7m. Magda (Y5) and Elliot (Y5) finished in fourth place throwing 13.8m and 28.5m, respectively. Isabelle (Y6) finished in third place throwing 15.6m and Daniel (Y6) came second with 29.5m. Some impressive distances!

In the high jump, Cora (Y5) jumped 85cm and both Thomas (Y5) and Sophie (Y6) cleared 1m. Henry (Y6) was super impressive clearing 1.21m - the highest jump out of all the schools. Well done!

In the long jump, Charlotte (Y3) came third with a jump of 2.5m,  Korra (Y4) came second jumping 2.9m. Harry (Y4) came fourth with a 2.4m jump and Alexa (Y5) also finished fourth with a jump of 2.3m. Harvey-James (Y5) jumped a whopping 3.4m finishing in third place. Emmie (Y6) finished in fourth place with a jump of 3.2m and finally Harry (Y6) finished in third place jumping 2.9m. They really did go the distance!

A huge congratulations to all of our Alveston Athletes. You should be so proud of yourselves and your achievements - especially considering it was another hot one! Well done, Alveston!
As promised, above are some fab pictures of Year 2's recent trip to the Sealife Centre, in Birmingham. They learned all about the habitats of the animals they have been studying in Science.

Can You Help?

You may or may not know that the Tiddington Community Centre hosts the Stratford AsYouLikeIt Club for the Blind and Partially sighted, who meet at the TCC every other Thursday (except August).

Many of the members rely on organised transport (provided by VASA) for them to get to and from the TCC however numbers for next Thursday 10th July are such that TCC urgently need an additional volunteer driver!

Could anyone help?

Members are picked up from their home from 1.15pm onwards in order to get to the TCC for 2pm.

They are then collected at 4pm for their journey home.

IF you are able to help next Thursday then please contact Rob Cobley, Chair AYLI Blind Club

rob.cobley@touchwoodonline.com

Thank you!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:

parents3002@welearn365.com
