Dear Families

I am delighted to let you know that the school has launched a new Facebook page. This will be a space where we can share some of the many lovely things happening across the school, celebrate children’s learning and give you a window into daily life in school. We hope you enjoy seeing these snapshots of school life and that it helps keep you connected with our community.

We are also starting to review some of our policies ahead of September to ensure we give notice of changes. One of these is uniform as there are a few tweaks we would like to make. Some parents have already shared a few suggestions on uniform with me. Whilst we can't make all the changes that people suggest, we do want to listen and make changes where we can to make life easier and, if possible, a bit more simplistic. Please do let us know at parents3002@welearn365.com if there is something you would like to share.

Have a great weekend!

Football Club Car Park

Following feedback from the football club and parents, we are aware of overcrowding in the football club car park at the beginning and end of the school day, and cars being parked outside of marked bays. This makes it unsafe for pedestrians and drivers due to reduced visibility.

Parking is only available if there are spaces free and we can only park in the allocated bays. Once all the marked bays are full each day, parents will need to find alternative parking when dropping off and collecting their children. Please do not park in any other areas of the car park going forward.

The football club very kindly allow us to use the car park for parking at drop-off and pick-up, however it is a privilege to do so. We are currently at risk of the football club withdrawing all use of the car park, making collecting your children difficult and Knights Lane unsafe due to the volume of cars.

Please could we also ask, if collecting from clubs, to not stand in the road as we have had a few near misses.

Thank you for your support in helping us to ensure we keep the use of the car park and keep everyone safe.
Keeping Warm

Year 5 have been busy testing which material is the best thermal insulator to keep a drink warm. They used a range of equipment to carry out a fair test and carefully recorded their results. The children showed great scientific skills, even getting down to 'eye level' to read the thermometer temperatures accurately. It was wonderful to see such focus, teamwork, and curiosity in action!
Year 3 had a fantastic Forest School session recently, themed around our furry forest friends, in celebration of National Squirrel Appreciation Day this week. The children learned fun facts about red and grey squirrels before creating their own squirrel drawings using a step-by-step guide. Others enjoyed squirrel-themed games, with lots of energetic tail shaking and nut burying. Some children also practised fire striking and helped set up our fire, finishing with a tasty treat of popcorn cooked over the flames. The smoky heat made the popcorn pop in different ways—yum! A happy, engaging session full of learning, teamwork and fun.
From the Cave to the Page!

Year 4 had lots of fun using their acting skills to explore how Aladdin felt when he became trapped inside the cave. The children used freeze frames, inner thoughts (sharing what was going through the character’s mind), and dramatic sound effects such as a beating heart, falling rain, and howling wind to build tension. This exciting and engaging lesson had a fantastic impact on their writing, helping pupils add more emotion, detail, and atmosphere to their work.
Healthy Futures

On Thursday, the Healthy Futures team from Warwickshire came to meet with the School Council to discuss health topics they would like to learn more about. Clarissa and Nikki are Health Promotion Practitioners and visited the School Council Team to get to know the children and discuss a variety of health topics. The children ranked each topic in order of what they wanted to know more about. Clarissa and Nikki will be visiting the school throughout the year to discuss the topics in more detail. The School Council Team will then share what they have learnt in our whole school Collective Worship assemblies.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message. You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
