February 2026

13th February 2026

Wow, what a half term! We launched straight in with Ofsted and haven’t slowed down since. Over the past few weeks, we have packed in an incredible range of experiences for our children: Battle of the Bands, Young Voices, Wear It Yellow for Air Ambulance, countless sporting events (despite the truly awful weather!), Bikeability, two fantastic class assemblies, a Place2Be fundraiser and, this week, our first ever camp-out at school! What we may have lacked in sleep, we certainly made up for in fun. It’s fair to say that we truly strive to provide our children with as many rich and memorable opportunities as possible. I am incredibly proud of our staff team, who work tirelessly to ensure that this never stops.

Thank you as well to you — our wonderful parents. You support us not only in these special events and adventures, but every single day. Your help, understanding and kindness make a real difference, and we are so grateful.

As we reach the halfway point of this academic year, it feels like a perfect moment to reflect on just how much has been achieved already. We are excited for all that is still to come in the months ahead.

Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. I hope your half term is a wonderful break, whether it is a holiday, time at home or simply time to catch up on sleep and having no school run - enjoy it!

See you all on Monday 23rd February.

Speaking of exciting events, a BIG thank you to everyone for all your donations for "Relax the Rules" day - this raised £386! What an amazing total! This money will help to support future school events for the children. Very special thanks go to Friends for organising this event. Well done, everyone!
Rapunzel in the Hot Seat!

Year 1 children worked in small groups to explore the character of Rapunzel in preparation for diary writing. They took turns to act in role as Rapunzel and were ‘hot seated’, where the rest of the group asked them questions about her thoughts, feelings and experiences. This encouraged the children to put themselves in Rapunzel’s position and think carefully about how she might feel in different situations, such as living in the tower or meeting the prince. The activity helped develop their speaking, listening and empathy skills. We finished the session by working together to write a diary entry from Rapunzel’s point of view, using the ideas discussed during the hot seating.
Flying High!

We are incredibly proud of Year 2 for their amazing class assembly and film all about How We Learnt to Fly. They spoke confidently to parents and the whole school, sharing their learning through history, aviation, and space. The children also performed a fantastic version of “Defying Gravity” and their own class poem about flight, complete with actions and enthusiasm. Their acting in the video was wonderful, especially when they pretended to be pilots – their confidence and imagination really brought the learning to life. Their teamwork, creativity and bravery truly shone – well done Year 2! You are all stars!

Collective Worship Round-Up

In Collective Worship last week, the Online Safety Committee lead our assembly. They spent time together planning, knowing that they wanted to inform children of both the benefits and risks of online gaming. Online gaming is fun for children as they can play with their friends and develop problem-solving skills. However, children always need to be aware of the people they are playing online with. It is also important to always let your trusted adults know what and who you are playing with and to let them know if anything is different or is a worry to you. The children also shared the importance of including online gaming into a balanced and healthy lifestyle, remembering to exercise and do different activities to support their wellbeing and social lives.

This week, the CW team planned and shared their ideas and chose a story from the Bible. The team decided to read the story: Noah's Ark. The story of Noah’s Ark teaches us to listen, trust and care for each other. Noah listened to God and built a big ark to save his family and the animals. Even when it was hard, he did the right thing, and God gave a rainbow as a promise of hope. In school, we look to each of the rainbows we see and find hope which helps us to remember it as one of our school values.
Fabulous Footballers!

This week, Alveston hosted Holy Trinity’s boys’ football team in a friendly after-school match. As expected, it was a tough game and by half time, the score was 2-5 to Holy Trinity. Despite the score, all of our boys showed tremendous spirit, resilience and determination and, in the second half, they really stepped up the pressure. Harry H, Jude, Liam and Harley worked tirelessly in defence, putting in some very strong tackles. Jude and Elliot both had turns in goal and made some amazing saves throughout the match, helping to keep Alveston firmly in the game. Edward, Kaisen and Harry B did not stop running in midfield, playing some amazing through-balls to Max, Elliot and Harvey-James who had lots of fantastic shots on target, with some making their way through the Holy Trinity defence. With the brilliant goals from Edward, Liam and Harvey-James, the score finished 5-6 to Holy Trinity, so it was very close indeed! We hope the boys are incredibly proud of their first performance of the year. A huge thank you to Mr Stowe for refereeing and to Miss Mabbett for organising these opportunities. Keep your eyes peeled for more football in the coming weeks!

Would You Like to Volunteer at Alveston Primary?

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please note: Parking is only available if there are spaces free and we can only park in the allocated bays. Once all the marked bays are full each day, parents will need to find alternative parking when dropping off and collecting their children. Please do not park in any other areas of the car park going forward. Please do not park on any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings at the main entrance to school. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message. You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
parents3002@welearn365.com
