Sports Update – National Cross-Country Championships

On Saturday 26th March, five Alveston runners represented Warwickshire in the National Cross-Country Championships in Market Harborough. The weather was perfect for runners and spectators, a warm sunny day with a light breeze to cool the competitors.

With between 115 and 140 children in each of the 6 races (Year 5 girls, Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls, Year 6 boys, Year 7 girls, Year 7 boys), the competition was fierce from both children and parents!

As we watched our children line up for their starts wearing their Warwickshire yellow, Mrs Chandler and I beamed with pride watching them compete against children from the other counties such as  North Yorkshire, Cumbria, Merseyside, Hertfordshire, to name but a few. To be selected to represent your county at a national competition at such a young age is an amazing achievement.

We also spotted an alumnus of Alveston – Alfie Musk! Now in Year 7 at Stratford High School, Alfie was also selected to run for Warwickshire.

Our children ran their best races and gave their all, physically and mentally. Whilst there were no national podium places for us this year, just competing at this level makes them all winners. Well done to Harrison, Isabella, Sam and Oscar, we are so very proud of you. Well done too to Lydia who was selected but unfortunately isolating on the day – we look forward to spotting you next year!
