News

1st April 2022

We are all feeling that Friday feeling today, the sun is shining and we are so excited at events past (National Cross Country Championship), events present (Celebration Assembly and Stars of the Week) and events future (a wonderful school celebration for all our generations).

All of these events - which you can find out more about below - have really lifted our spirits as the half term begins it's final chapter. We cannot wait to share further details of our celebration plans, but for now the most important thing to note is the date in your diary - Friday 27th May from 12.00 midday.

Please don't forget, parents are welcome to join Mrs Newitt, Mrs Quainton Stubbs, Mr Quinn and me on Thursday 7th April for a cuppa and a chat.

In the meantime, I would like to wish you all a gentle and restful weekend,

Anne Clewley

Sports Update – National Cross-Country Championships

On Saturday 26th March, five Alveston runners represented Warwickshire in the National Cross-Country Championships in Market Harborough. The weather was perfect for runners and spectators, a warm sunny day with a light breeze to cool the competitors.

With between 115 and 140 children in each of the 6 races (Year 5 girls, Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls, Year 6 boys, Year 7 girls, Year 7 boys), the competition was fierce from both children and parents!

As we watched our children line up for their starts wearing their Warwickshire yellow, Mrs Chandler and I beamed with pride watching them compete against children from the other counties such as  North Yorkshire, Cumbria, Merseyside, Hertfordshire, to name but a few. To be selected to represent your county at a national competition at such a young age is an amazing achievement.

We also spotted an alumnus of Alveston – Alfie Musk! Now in Year 7 at Stratford High School, Alfie was also selected to run for Warwickshire.

Our children ran their best races and gave their all, physically and mentally. Whilst there were no national podium places for us this year, just competing at this level makes them all winners. Well done to Harrison, Isabella, Sam and Oscar, we are so very proud of you. Well done too to Lydia who was selected but unfortunately isolating on the day – we look forward to spotting you next year!

Arts Week Jubilee Celebration

The last week of next half term (week commencing 23rd May 2022) is traditionally our Arts Week. We are now busy finalising the activities for our children to experience the Arts. These will include singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, drama and creating using different materials, both in and out of the classroom.

Each year our Arts Week has a theme. As this year the week is not only the run up to the half term holiday but also to the Nation’s Jubilee Celebration, celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 70-year reign, we have decided our Arts Week will have a jubilee theme.

These past two years has been difficult for all families. Generations separated through the series of lockdowns. As this jubilee will be a once in lifetime event for most of us, we would like to bring our generations back together here at Alveston to mark this historic occasion. We are therefore delighted to invite parents, grandparents and younger siblings to join us for the afternoon of Friday 27th May. Our celebration will be outside on our school field, whatever the weather, to ensure we can accommodate everyone safely. We will open our school grounds at 12.00 with celebrations beginning at 12.30. More details will follow, but the event will include a picnic! Please mark the date in your diary and be sure to let the grand parents know!

Walking for the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal

Congratulations and Good Luck to Year 6's Ellie O and Poppy who are doing a sponsored walk for British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal. They have already raised an amazing £650.

They will be walking the Greenway this Sunday 3rd April at 3pm. Good Luck girls!

Prayer of the Week from Year 6

We give thanks for all those whose shared experiences, both historically and in the present, bless us with knowledge and understanding.

In the face of adversity - we ask for resilience.
When danger is near - we ask for courage.
In times of hopeless ness we ask for endurance.
In hardship we ask for perseverance.

We ask forgiveness when we fail to notice - help us to listen, to observe and to relate - that we might find joy in our learning and deepen our understanding.

Grant us each day, grace for the present and hope for the future.
Amen
