News

11th March 2022

I have seen a lot on social media this week how two years ago was our last 'normal week'. Life seems so different to then and so much has changed. However, it is lovely that, slowly, snippets of our old normal are coming back. Two years ago Reception (now Year 2) held our last live class assembly. This week, we were able to open the doors up again and Year 6 presented their assembly for their parents. How to start off with a bang? Their performance was fabulous. They detailed Shackleton's journey to the Antarctic. It left me in awe of our children. Their presenting and writing skills were fantastic - poetry which made my skin tingle - not only the words but the incredible way in which it was shared. I feel humbled by our young children. Despite everything that has happened over the last two years, and especially in recent weeks, their commitment and efforts to shine and to try hard never falter.

We have been so grateful and thrilled to see the donations coming in to help families in Ukraine. We have taken these donations to Teams4U in Evesham (who collect our shoeboxes), we know these things will then be taken directly to where needed. As well as physical items, lots of children have been making, sewing and drawing Ukraine flags to sell to raise money. A big well done to Oscar, Elsie, Serena and Lily - who are already into the hundreds. Wearing and seeing these flags is such a reminder to be grateful for all that we have around us. I feel incredibly proud of the community kindness that I have seen and so lucky to be a part of our Alveston family.

I wish you all a restful weekend. Our prayers are with Ukraine.

Class Feature: Reception Trip to Oversley Hill Farm

Reception enjoyed their first trip to Oversley Hill Farm this week. It was a fabulous opportunity to feed and handle sheep, cows and chickens. The children also got to ride on a tractor and to go rolling down huge hills. Without doubt, lots of memories were made and wonderful experiences had. After the trip, the leaders at the farm, Sophie and Amy commented on how the children were such enthusiastic learners and so well behaved. Well done children!
Ukraine Support Donation Appeal

A huge thank you to everybody who has donated items to our Ukraine Support Donation Appeal.  As you can see from the picture, we received so many wonderful donations which will make a difference to those who are sadly displaced by the conflict.

We also have a very BIG thank you to the Dowsett Family who took all of the donations in Betty the Campervan!  We are so lucky, as it has meant everything went in one drop off and has gotten there so quickly today.

As Mrs Newitt has mentioned above, the donation site we were due to work with quickly became full to bursting with generous donations.  Instead items will be making their way to support those fleeing Ukraine with Teams4U, via BHGS, Vale Park, Evesham, WR11 1GP.  You might recognise the name Teams4U as the organisation we arrange Christmas Shoe Boxes for every year.

Thank you again to everyone who has generously donated and the Dowsett Family (not to forget Betty!).

Friends of Alveston Mother's Day Crafts!

Hello Parents and Carers.

The Friends of Alveston are very excited to announce that we have a wonderful team of volunteers organised who will be supporting the children in making Mother’s Day crafts starting from Monday.

We have some beautiful materials for them to use and are sure that we will see lots of very colourful creations! We are kindly asking for a minimum contribution of £2.50 per child in order to cover the costs of the materials and hopefully raise some additional funds for all the exciting things that the school have planned for our children to benefit from.

Please transfer the money to the Friends of Alveston bank account using your child’s name as the reference.

Account name: Friends of Alveston
Sort code: 20-48-08
Account number 20687499

Please make the payment by Friday 18th March and their finished creations will be sent home before Mother’s Day.

Due to time constraints, children will be crafting one item each but if you do need another created for a step parent for example, please contact Carly on 07890631488 who will arrange this for you or let your child’s teacher know and this will be organised for you.

As always, thank you so much for your continued support, we hope to be able share other dates for your diaries soon too!

Please feel free to drop us a message or send an email to friendsofalveston@outlook.com if you have any questions.
