The whole school spent the last week learning about the theme "Growth" and have learnt about a famous scientist. Below the classes share their science focus and activities. Thank you to Mrs Rogers, our Science Lead, who co-ordinated the week for the school.
Reception
We shared the traditional stories of The Enormous Turnip and Jack and the Beanstalk. The children planted their own magic bean (given to us from our farm trip!) at Forest School and we very much hope they will grow into giant beanstalks! We found out all about the famous naturalist and biologist, David Attenborough. The children were inspired to paint their own animals and build their own wildlife habitats. Finally we collected data in the class and inputted it into the computers to make bar charts of our hair colour, pets and favourite fruits!
Year 1
We became plant detectives and explored the school grounds observing where plants grow. We used magnifying glasses and enjoyed collecting a box of natural treasures to then observe further in our classroom. We also learnt about the work of Marie Curie.
Year 2
During Science week, Year 2 learnt about a famous botanist called Jane Colden. Then we went outside and became botanists ourselves by studying and sketching daffodils.
Year 3
Year 3 learnt about the work of the famous scientist Galileo. We also created pendulums and looked at forces by using parachutes.
Year 4
With the theme this year being growth, Year 4 watched our class daffodils bloom. We wrote about Tiera Fletcher. She is a twenty three year old female rocket scientist working on the rocket to take people to Mars. We considered what an animal who lives on Mars would look like. Finally, we explored electricity circuits and investigated which materials are conductors and insulators.
Year 5
We have looked at the life cycles of different animals, focussing on metamorphosis. We produced zoological drawings of their life cycles to illustrate our explanations, we learned about the life and work of Jane Goodall, and we also created our own outdoor gyms to promote healthy growth in ourselves. We will also be creating a poster for our homework.
Year 6
This week for Science Week Year 6 learnt all about the history of electricity. In groups they researched famous inventors/ discoveries about electricity and created their own display.
