Come Dine With Me!
As part of their Design and Technology lessons, the Year 6 children took part in an exciting cooking project: ‘Come Dine With Me’. Working collaboratively in groups, they developed their own unique recipes, each featuring one of the hero ingredients: pepper, salmon, or pineapple. The children demonstrated fantastic creativity, teamwork, and culinary skills throughout the process. Their final dishes were not only well-prepared but also delicious! Judging was carried out by Mrs Rogers, Mrs Newitt, Mrs Pokora, Mrs Watkins and Mrs Sinclair who were thoroughly impressed by the quality and imagination shown in each group’s creation. Well done Year 6!
Technovation Challenge!
Alveston was buzzing with excitement on Monday as we held a special celebration assembly for the children who took part in this year's Technovation Challenge. Technovation is a global programme that empowers girls to become technology innovators, entrepreneurs and problem-solvers, using technology to improve their communities and the wider world. This was the first year Alveston has taken part in Technovation, making these children true pioneers! By stepping forward and embracing a brand-new challenge, they have helped lay the foundations for future Alveston girls to follow in their footsteps. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and are looking forward to creating even more opportunities in the years ahead!
The timing of the celebration was particularly fitting, taking place during the week of International Women in Engineering Day. The event highlighted the importance of encouraging more girls to see themselves as future engineers, technologists, innovators and leaders. It was a wonderful celebration of courage, creativity and ambition. We were also honoured to welcome Rana Alqrenawi, Founder and CEO of AspireHer and Her Code, who spoke to the girls about the exciting opportunities available in technology and encouraged them to continue believing in the power of their ideas. After the assembly, the children had the opportunity to meet Rana, ask questions and learn more about her journey and work supporting girls and women in technology. A highlight of the morning was the presentation of special certificates, generously provided by AspireHer and Her Code, recognising the creativity, determination and innovation shown by every participant.
To our Technovation pioneers: thank you for being brave enough to try something new and for helping to lead the way for those who will follow. We hope this experience has shown you that you belong in technology, engineering and innovation. Keep asking questions. Keep solving problems. Keep believing that your ideas can make a difference. The future of technology needs more creative, diverse and compassionate people like you, and we cannot wait to see what you do next!
Tudors Brought to Life!
Year 5 had a fantastic visit to Mary Arden’s Farm, bringing their learning about the Tudors vividly to life. Despite it being possibly the hottest day ever, the children fully embraced the experience and showed great enthusiasm throughout. They took part in a range of hands-on activities, including making lavender bags, using traditional wattle-and-daub techniques to understand how Tudor buildings were constructed, and painting cloth with their own Tudor rose designs. The dressing-up session was a particular highlight, helping them step back in time and imagine life in Tudor England. This was a memorable and engaging day that deepened their understanding of history in a practical and enjoyable way.
My Happy Mind
Year 2 have been continuing their My Happy Mind learning, exploring how their brains work and developing strategies to support their wellbeing. As part of this, the children have been learning about the different parts of the brain and how our thoughts and feelings can affect us. They have also been practising happy breathing, using simple breathing techniques to help them feel calm, focused and ready to learn. It has been wonderful to see the children using these strategies confidently throughout the school day.

You are encouraged to drop off quality uniform donations and take away any uniform you need between 9am - 4pm Monday to Thursday and 9am - 1pm on Fridays at the Stratford Town Trust Community Hub, located at Venture House, Avenue Farm Industrial Estate, CV37 0HR.
Water Safety - think before you dip!
Hot weather can tempt people take to the water to cool down but it's important to take some precautions to stay safe. The majority of water related incidents occur in the summer months, so Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding people how to stay safe when in around water. Warwickshire has a wide variety of lakes, quarries, canals and rivers, all of which carry hidden dangers. Even on a warm day, the temperature in open water can be very cold, causing cold water shock – a physical reaction that can make it difficult to control breathing, lead to panic and make swimming extremely difficult.
Click here for more information about water safety.
Heat alert: simple steps to stay safe and well
While many people enjoy summer weather, very hot temperatures can cause some people to become unwell through overheating (becoming uncomfortably hot), dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
The UK Health Security Agency (UK HSA) and the Met office have issued a RED alert for the West Midlands from 1am on 24 June until 11pm on 25 June. A red alert means extreme heat is likely to have serious effects across the whole population, putting people, especially older adults, at increased risk.
It can lead to higher health risks, disruption to daily life, challenges in staying cool indoors, possible power or infrastructure issues, and a greater chance of water-related accidents, meaning extra care and a coordinated response are needed.
Please see the following health messages:
To help stay safe and well people are advised to:
- Keep out of the sun at the hottest time of the day, between 11am and 3pm.
- Plan any physical activity during times of the day when it is cooler such as the morning or evening.
- Keep homes cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun.
- Cover up with suitable clothing such as an appropriate hat and sunglasses, seek shade and apply sunscreen when outside.
- Drink plenty of fluids and limit alcohol intake
- Check up on family, friends and neighbours who may be at higher risk of becoming unwell.
- Recognise the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and what to do if you or someone else has them

General Reminders
Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please note: Parking is only available if there are spaces free and we can only park in the allocated bays. Once all the marked bays are full each day, parents will need to find alternative parking when dropping off and collecting their children. Please do not park in any other areas of the car park going forward. Please do not park on any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings at the main entrance to school. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.
Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message. You may also email
parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).
Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer. Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
parents3002@welearn365.com
