Extra Special Star of the Week!
Wonderful Tilly, from Year 4, has been awarded Star of the Week by her teacher at the Birmingham Children's Hospital this week! Tilly helped to give a presentation all about the Eurovision Song Contest. We hear that she did an amazing job and showed real courage, sharing with her peers, and had lots of enthusiasm for the subject. Well done, Tilly! We are all thinking of you.
Team Cup Winners
Congratulations to this week's team cup winners, Othello Yellows! And a big "WELL DONE" to anyone who earned team points this week.

Well Done, Year 6!
A huge well done to all of our Year 6 pupils for completing their SATs this week! We are incredibly proud of each and every child for the hard work, determination and resilience they have shown throughout the year and during the tests themselves. Their behaviour, attitude and maturity going into SATs week were exemplary and they truly represented the school brilliantly. The children thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast sessions each morning, which provided a calm and positive start to the day. We also finished the week with a surprise SATs party to celebrate all of their effort and achievement – a well-deserved treat for such a fantastic group of children!

Shakespeare's Birthday Parade
At the end of April, it was wonderful to take part in Shakespeare's Birthday Parade celebrating what makes Stratford so very famous! Six children marched in the parade to represent Alveston and lay flowers on Shakespeare's grave. They enjoyed watching the parade come through and holding the banner up to show all the tourists who we were. A big thank you to Seb, Matilda, George, Hattie, Matthew and Calvin for coming on a Saturday morning to represent Alveston at this special event.
People Who Help Us
This week, Reception class had a visit from the school nursing team as part of their topic, 'People Who Help Us'. The children learnt about healthy food, drinking water, exercise, sun safety and brushing your teeth. The children looked at Ben the Bear to see if he had everything he needed in order to be healthy. This was a wonderful learning experience for the children.
6, 7!
In Maths this week, Year 1 have been working brilliantly with partners to explore different ways to make 6 and 7. Using counters and practical resources, the children investigated number bonds, explained their thinking and worked together to solve problems. It was lovely to see such fantastic teamwork and mathematical discussion taking place!
Shining Stars!
We have it on very good authority that lots of our Alveston children did a truly fantastic job at the SJ Academy show on Saturday 9th May. Parents have told us that the confidence, energy and enthusiasm shown by all of the children was wonderful to see, and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves. They were all so brave performing on stage, and it was a fantastic morning that truly showcased the talent within our school community.
Malvern Show Success!
A huge well done to Matthew and Eloise who entered arrangements into the RHS Malvern Spring Festival last weekend. Both children entered into the Under 12s category and did amazingly well - Matthew came 2nd (wow!) and Eloise received a "Very Highly Commended" award. This is such a creative and special thing to do - well done, both of you!

Registration for the 11+ test is now open
If you would like your child to be considered for a Year 7 place at a Warwickshire grammar school in September 2027, then please register your child for the 11+ test by the deadline of 4pm on Monday 30 June.
The 11+ test is used to assess whether a child is eligible for a place at one of the county’s grammar schools. The test is open to all children who will be starting secondary school in September 2027 (those currently in Year 5), and registration is now open.
The test itself will take place on 12 and 13 September 2025, and parents will receive their child’s results in October, before the deadline to apply for a secondary school place (31 October). Click here to learn more...

General Reminders
Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please note: Parking is only available if there are spaces free and we can only park in the allocated bays. Once all the marked bays are full each day, parents will need to find alternative parking when dropping off and collecting their children. Please do not park in any other areas of the car park going forward. Please do not park on any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings at the main entrance to school. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.
Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message. You may also email
parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).
Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer. Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
parents3002@welearn365.com
